Farm Assistant at Allen Sheep Farm, Chilmark, MA.

by Kaila
(Chilmark, MA)

The Allen Farm Sheep and Wool Company is currently seeking a farm assistant starting in spring (April/May) 2014. The Allen Farm is located in Chilmark, on the island of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The Allen-Posin family runs a diversified farm, practicing organic and biodynamic methods of agriculture, and raising a variety of livestock on 100 acres.

We seek a skilled farm worker, or a couple, to assist in a wide range of jobs on the farm. These include managing livestock, repairing and constructing fences, operating farm machinery, garden maintenance, and assisting with daily needs of this 250-year-old farm.

This assistant must have experience working with livestock and operating machinery. Preference will go to an applicant with wood working skills, as well as experience with fence construction and engineering.

The Allen Farm will offer housing and full access to vegetable gardens on the property in exchange for full-time work, and opportunity for additional compensation.

For more information, or to apply, please contact Nathaniel and Kaila Allen-Posin, at kaila@islandgrown.org.

Feel free to visit our website, www.allenfarm.com for more information on our farm!

What a wonderful opportunity for someone or couple! The Allen Farm sounds and looks perfectly idyllic and what a great experience to offer.

And wow -- such a gem of a find for locals and visitors in the area with sumptuous (home grown) woolens by local knitters and weavers + organically raised and grass fed meats and eggs too. Thank you for introducing this beautiful place to us and posting your farm assistant position on Sustainable Live*Work*Play.
